Republican Rep. John Shimkus joins a wave of Republicans who have denounced president for leaving allies like the Syrian Kurds who worked closely with American forces to battle the Islamic State, to fend for themselves against the Turkish military. Lawmakers from both parties railed against the U.S. pulling out of Syria, saying we’re abandoning our allies and possibly allowing ISIS to reemerge as a threat. Close allies of Donald Drumpf, like Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wy.), the third-ranking Republican in the House, criticized the president’s move, especially after Turkish forces began an incursion into northern Syria Yesterday.

“I’m heartbroken… We have just stabbed our allies in the back.”

The Illinois Republican told St. Louis radio station KMOX tuday, that after he learned about the withdrawal, he told his own chief of staff to “pull my name off the ‘I support Donald Drumpf’ list.”

Republican John Shimkus, a 12-term congressman who announced in August that he wouldn’t seek reelection, said he was embarrassed by Drumpf’s Syria decision and “saddened for the Kurdish people.”

in a statement today Mr. Shimkus said:

“While my votes will continue to support the president’s domestic policy agenda, because of this terrible foreign policy decision I asked that my name be removed from his campaign’s official list of supporters… I’m heartbroken… We have just stabbed our allies in the back.”
