A New York City police officer released from hospital after being shot during a violent incident early today inside 2785 Frederick Douglass Boulevard in Harlem.

Based on a report by Police Commissioner James O’Neill, at 2am today, eight officers from the 32nd precinct responded to a complaint from a female resident… She complaint that a man -sources say he was the superintendent of the building- was harassing her, banging on doors and breaking glass on the building’s second floor.

O’Neill said:

“One officer encountered the 29-year-old suspect who was naked and pointing a 9mm gun at him… shots were fired between the two and the other responding officers. One of the officers was struck in the chest covered by his bullet-resistant vest.”

The injured officer, a seven year veteran, was transported to Mount Sinai St. Luke’s Hospital in stable condition.

This morning’s shooting of an NYPD cop underscores the inherent dangers they bravely face on behalf of every New Yorker. Fortunately, the officer left the hospital only hours after being shot to continue his recovery. Please make sure to always keep NY’s Finest in your prayers.

When Mayor Bill de Blasio visited the injured officer early Wednesday morning in the hospital he said that the officer was in “good spirits”.

And he added

“Absolutely an example of bravery and strength after what he had been through”.

The suspect was pronounced dead at Harlem Hospital. The suspect’s gun was recovered at the scene.

The police commissioner said that:

“the suspect worked inside the building where the shooting took place and has had previous interactions with police including for domestic violence”
